Subtitles on Amara.org: Public, Enterprise, and Professional Services Explained

Posted on October 28, 2025October 28, 2025 By amarasubs No Comments on Subtitles on Amara.org: Public, Enterprise, and Professional Services Explained

At Amara.org, our mission is to make video content accessible to people everywhere through captions and subtitles. We understand that different creators and organizations have different needs, which is why we provide multiple pathways to create subtitles:

  1. Amara On Demand Professional Services – Our team of trained professionals delivers high-quality, human-created captions and subtitles, carefully reviewed for accuracy and accessibility.
  2. Amara Enterprise Platform Plans – Organizations and teams can use our award-winning subtitle editor in a secure, private workspace to manage their own subtitling workflows.
  3. Amara Public Workspace – Volunteers and the wider community can contribute captions and subtitles to publicly shared videos in the free Amara Public Platform.

Each of these options serves a unique purpose. Understanding the differences helps ensure that you choose the right solution for your content.

The Reputation of Amara’s Professional Services

Amara On Demand is our professional subtitling service, trusted by organizations worldwide. Built on years of experience in accessibility, localization, and cultural nuance, our team provides subtitles that meet the highest industry standards for:

  • Accuracy and readability
  • Accessibility compliance
  • Cultural sensitivity and local relevance
  • Consistency across languages and markets

We are proud of the reputation we’ve built delivering professional, human-edited captions and translations. These services reflect the very best of what Amara.org has to offer, and they are the gold standard for accessibility and audience reach.

Best Subtitle Editor and Workspace for Enterprise Teams

If you’re looking for a solution that allows your organization to work with your own in-house linguists, vendors, or mixed teams, consider Amara Enterprise Platform.

With the Amara Enterprise Platform, you get a Private Team Workspace plus access to the Amara Award-Winning Captioning and Subtitling Editor. This secure environment helps you manage projects, control quality, and streamline workflows.

  • Private and secure subtitle editing
  • Streamlined workflows and quality control
  • Flexible per-seat or per-minute subscription

Amara Enterprise Platform is the smart choice built for companies, nonprofits, and professional teams that need scalable subtitling software and professional video accessibility solutions.

Subtitles on the Amara Public Workspace

Alongside our Professional Services and the Amara Enterprise Platform, the Amara Public Workspace Community plays a valuable role in expanding access to content.

The Public Workspace provides free access to our subtitle editor, enabling content creators, students, and volunteers to practice subtitling while helping make videos more accessible.

When you see subtitles credited as:

  • “Subtitles created by the Amara.org community”
  • “Subtitles created by volunteers on the Amara.org public platform”
  • “Subtitles created by the public with Amara.org’s subtitle editor”

you’re seeing the results of community collaboration—not the work of Amara.org’s professional team.

Because the Public Workspace is open to everyone, we do not and cannot review every subtitle created there. Quality depends entirely on the volunteers, which means results may vary. While many volunteers create excellent work, others may have limited experience or language proficiency.

The Challenge of AI-Generated Subtitles

Another important factor is that videos added to the Amara Public Workspace often come with AI-generated subtitles. These are typically low quality and not reviewed by humans. Because Amara.org does not own or control this content, we cannot apply the same quality standards as we do with our professional services.

We recognize that extremely poor AI-generated subtitles—when displayed with the Amara.org name—can negatively affect both our reputation and that of the professional subtitlers we employ. This is why it’s essential to distinguish between public or AI-generated subtitles and the professional services provided by Amara On Demand.

Choosing the Right Subtitling Solution

The Amara Public Workspace exists to give everyone free access to our subtitle editor—an important tool for learning, experimenting, and making videos more accessible at no cost.

But for organizations, creators, and teams that require subtitles they can fully trust—subtitles that are accurate, accessible, and culturally sensitive—the best choice is Amara On Demand professional services.

Or if you need a secure and efficient space to manage your own team of in-house linguists and translation vendors, look no further than Amara Enterprise Platform.

If you have a project that needs captions and subtitles, reach out to us at client-services@amara.org. Our team will work with you to understand your needs and recommend the best solution.
