In May and June of 2020, Participatory Culture Foundation (PCF), the nonprofit behind Amara, updated the legal documents that govern all of its associated websites, software offerings, and professional services (including Amara). These changes are now reflected in the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
Please read the documents in full, but we hope this list of key updates is helpful:
- Terms of Service
- Clarified the scope of the Terms of Service to cover all PCF software offerings, and professional services
- Added terms for Amara Teams
- Added terms for Amara on Demand professional services
- Added payment terms
- Updated physical mailing address information
- Minor edits for clarity and polish
- Privacy Policy
- Clarified the scope of the Privacy Policy to cover all PCF software offerings, and professional services
- Linked to full list of Amara subprocessors
- Updated policies related to GDPR and other privacy frameworks
- Exited Privacy Shield – although Amara/PCF exceeded Privacy Shield requirements and was accepted into the program, the Department of Commerce recently notified us that PCF was technically not eligible for the framework, due to our nonprofit status*
- Updated language to describe how we continue to conform to requirements of the GDPR
- Added language to describe how we conform to California Consumer Privacy Act
- Updated physical mailing address information
- Minor edits for clarity and polish
- Terms of Service for Amara Pro Accounts
- These have both been rolled into the site-wide Terms of Service. The old links are now redirected to the updated Terms of Service.
*Note: The US Department of Commerce does not govern 501c3 nonprofit organizations or their activities and thus nonprofit organizations are technically not eligible for entry into the Privacy Shield program.
